Potsdamer Platz 11
With a height of 70 meters and 18 floors, the building is one of the three largest buildings on Potsdamer Platz. With Potsdamer Platz 11, the Italian architect Renzo Piano has created a prominent building in the “new” center of Berlin.
Its glass tip points elegantly and precisely like a compass needle to Potsdamer Platz. In dialogue with the neighboring Kollhoff Tower, the high-rise forms the northern end of the area.
In order to make the area at the top of the building more accessible and attractive to the public, a reinterpretation of the spatial context is required. A public café is being built on the ground floor in favor of a smaller lobby.
FACADE
Instead of the old arcades, a new all-glass facade is being built, designed by Renzo Piano. The area of the ground floor is thus expanded by adding the former outdoor space of the arcades.
GRAND LOBBY AND WEST LOBBY
The access situation to the elevator lobby is redefined by a rearrangement of the entrances and an extension of the facade. The access areas will be equipped with new all-glass revolving doors and the walls will be clad with high-quality cast stone and travertine slabs.
COFFEE SHOP
The café area is to become a new attraction in the overall concept of the building. Approx. 200 seats are possible in the café.
